The Ministry of Social Affairs in Partnership with Fako Alliance for Social Care (Civil Society Organizations and Orphanages) hosted a vibrant and impactful celebration of the Day of the African Child, commemorating the 34th session of this significant day.
The event was which was a week long program began on the 11th– 14th of June 2024, focused on the theme” Education for all African child, the Time is Now”, highlighting the urgent need for equitable access to quality education for every child on the continent.
Dreamers hope foundation being part of the Fako Alliance for Social Care (FASC) played a crucial role in the success of the event. The organization provided materials for the sports games, facilitated the radio talk program with chief of center Ideanau and actively participated the symposium.
The day kicked off with a thrilling sport tournament bringing together children areas such as orphanages and community. The sport activity was an inclusive one involving students with disabilities participating in activities such as egg and spoon race, filling the basket. Others games included football, sack race. These competition help to foster a spirit of unity and sportsmanship, promoting teamwork and togetherness among the children.
A live radio talk show, hosted by Ocean City Radio, featured insightful discussions on
the theme of education, experts including NGOs, government official and a representative from Dreamers Hope Foundation, addressed the challenges and opportunity in providing quality education for all African Child, measures being taken to address children’s well-being and rights to education and Dreamers Hope Foundation contributions to advancing children welfare and protection in Cameroon.
A well- attended symposium provided a platform for all stakeholders. The event, held at the City Council hall carried the powerful theme ‘’Education for all children in Africa the time is now’’ resonating as a collective call to action for equal access to education and empowerment of Africa’s future leaders. The celebration was a collaborative effort spearheaded by the Government through the Ministry of Social, the Senior Divisional Officer of Fako and the Fako Alliance for Social Care.
Amidst the festival, dreamers hope foundation in collaboration with global impact foundation a civil society organization launched their innovation ‘’Teens Connect’’ initiative within the local community which aims to equip teenagers with civic engagement skills and enable them to apply their academic knowledge to real-word projects, fostering a sense of empowerment and practical application. The teens had the honor to showcase their remarkable STEM skills; utilizing simple materials like syringes, plastic pipes and bamboo in constructing prototype of tractor and bulldozer, applying their understanding of coordinate geometry and engineering science.
Dreamers Hope Foundation also participated in socio cultural display of African Cultures through fashion parade displaying different ethnic groups in Cameroon and African.
The event successfully raised awareness about the importance of education for all African children. The event provided children a platform to share their aspiration, skills, talent and inspiring hope for a brighter future where education is a reality for all.
